Deep conditioning your hair doesn’t have to be an expensive and time-consuming process. You can create a hair mask at home to take care of your locks, once you have the right ingredients.

One hair mask that we truly adore is an avocado and mayonnaise one. It is particularly great for dry and frizzy hair and all type 4 textured hair and contains all the nutrients natural hair needs. Did you know not all ingredients suit natural hair?

1. Avocado Mask

What Do I Need?
You will need several ingredients and remember, quantities will vary dependent on the thickness and length of your hair.

·       3 tbsp argan oil
·       1 ripe avocado
·       2 tbsp mayonnaise
·       1 egg
·       1 tsp honey
·       3 tbsp castor oil
·       3 tsp olive oil
·       1 ripe banana

What Do I Do?
1. Pour all the ingredients into a blender and mix until it’s smooth.

2. After cleansing your hair, section it into 4 parts to help make sure that the mixture is fully absorbed throughout the hair

3. Apply the mask thoroughly while you finger comb it from root to tip.

4. Smooth your hair into a topknot and then either cover it with a shower cap or wrap it in clingwrap. This will help to retain the heat.

5. Leave it on for 20-25 minutes dependent on how dry your hair is.

6. Rinse the mixture out thoroughly and then apply conditioner to mask the food smell.

7. Repeat at least once a month.

After two applications, you should start to see your hair shinier, stronger, and more manageable. This is as the oils work together with the avocado and mayonnaise to create shine and strengthen your strands.

2. Coconut Oil Mask

What Do I Need?
Remember that the quantity depends on the thickness and length of your hair

  • 1 tablespoon of coconut oil

What Do I Do?
  1. Before you go to bed, you will need to dampen your hair

2. Warm the coconut oil in the microwave

3. Massage it into your damp hair while avoiding the roots

4. Tie your hair into a bun and cover it with a head wrap or shower cap in a way it will stay on for the whole night

5. Take the shower cap or head wrap off in the morning and wash your hair with shampoo
